Based on available research and consultations with the government and private sector stakeholders, EPI has identified the Pokhara-Sunauli economic corridor as a potential region for rapid industrial development.  Working with municipal governments, the project is expected to contribute in creating a favourable environment for community participation and private sector involvement in local economic development activities.

Responding to this opportunity, EPI has established partnerships with Pokhara-Lekhnath Metropolitan City, Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City, Tilottama Municipality and Siddharthanagar Municipality. As per needs and priorities set by these municipal authorities, EPI is currently providing technical assistance in the following areas to develop and implement much-needed subnational economic policies and strategies.

  • Local business simplification policy and procedures and establishment of one window service centres to facilitate local business registration and other services.
  • Municipal level model public-private partnership (PPP) policy, Act and Regulation to help improve participation of the private sector and community groups in local economic development efforts.
  • Selection of tourist sites in Pokhara-Lekhnath in partnership with the Metropolitan City, private businesses and communities.
  • Identification of economic development opportunities at the municipal level.
